Ever sit back and say to yourself, "If I could figure out what it is I love to do, what I'm passionate about then I would be all set...life would be great"? I'm sure you have, along with millions of other people. The only problem in thinking this thought is most people follow-up by trying to think their way to figuring out what they're passionate about.
But your passion can't be found in your head because it lives in your heart.
Most people never really get to their passion-filled living because they struggle with trying to figure out a way to understand what that looks like. We think about it, we take personality tests, we ask our friends, we analyze, and we analyze some more...but never really getting to the core of what ignites that flame within us.
In order to discover what lights up your world you must begin to take action. Get out and engage in life, explore and FEEL your way to your truth. Whether it's figuring out your purpose or simply how to bring more passion into your life, you must begin the ground work of taking action.
Growing up, I grew up like most inner city kids living in an urban community...we didn't go hiking and we sure as hell didn't go skiing....and as far as i was concerned...I wasn't interested or concerned about doing those things. However, as a child I loved to explore...always dragging my sister on one of my little 'adventures'....so hiking was something I always wanted to do, but it just wasn't the 'cool' thing to do growing up. As I got older I began to be exposed to all kinds of people, lifestyles, and interests so my hunger for adventure grew even larger. After hearing my coworkers discuss a hiking trip they went on I decided to take my chances and experience hiking for the first time when I was 26...and fell completely in love.
Now I use hiking as a way to connect back with myself, clear my mind, and just appreciate the serenity of nature. It definitely is one of the activities that I turn to when I want to get back to appreciating the beauty in life and something that I am completely passionate about.....and has led to the base of a lot of great ideas. So the moral of this story (just like tons of other stories I have) is that by taking action, taking a chance, and exploring life I found something that I am completely in love with. Without proactively seeking this experience then I may no have discovered this part of who I am.
Life moves really fast, so we have to start jumping in head first and figure the rest out on the way down (or up). I encourage you to start listening more to your heart. Sit and really ask yourself what do you love. Make a list of the things that come to mind. When you start to answer this question, really stretch your mind to answer and then take steps to start doing these things. Take some advice from Nike and Just Do It. You will then start to discover that when you're connected to your true happy self, joy and inspiration fills your heart and soul. And this is the kind of life we all deserve to live.
